My environment: Mac Pro running Live! 8 under OSX 10.7.3, iPad running TouchOSC. Touching any of the mixer sliders displays a Midi output of ccxx/9, where xx is in the range of 44 - 47 or 85 - 88. This code appears the first time the slider is touched. Sliding the slider has no effect. No midi information is being sent to Live! This is as far as I've gotten. One thing I'm not clear on... what 'Control' Surface' do you use when setting up Live? I've been using 'microCONTROL' for example:

Control Surface: microKONTROL,
Input: OSCulator Out,
Output: OSCulator in (8000)

Hi Transco,

Please follow one of these tutorials:

- page 48 of the manual: http://dl.osculator.net/doc/OSCulator+2.11+Manual.pdf
- same content in a web page: http://www.osculator.net/doc/tutorial:1:start

I can get OSCulator to work using manual configuration, but setting up each control this way would be slow going. My goal is to use the included templates. In the iPad, I am using 'LiveControl iPad' for the TouchOSC layout. In OSCulator I am using the 'TouchOSC' Sample Patch as follows:

Samples Library -> Mobile-iOS -> TouchOSC -> ???

This is where I get lost. There is no template called 'LiveControl iPad' I've tried everything here, but nothing seems to work. If you would be so kind as to tell me which template I should use for TouchOSC, perhaps I'd be able to get this thing to work. Yes, I've read the manual, and watched the video, but I'm still lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Transco,

I'll try to give the most useful answer I can.
I understand that you are lost because it seems you confuse several things, so I'll focus on making things clearer.

The LiveControl template has been designed for the LiveControl application, this is why you don't see a pre-configured template in OSCulator's library.

LiveControl is an application that allows a user to control Ableton Live using OSC commands. Although OSCulator is compatible with the OSC standard it does not mean that will work or will be useful with any other OSC application. The LiveControl template has been designed to work with the LiveControl application without the need for OSCulator. More information and download it here: http://livecontrol.q3f.org/

Now there's a catch: some advanced users want to be able to do things with LiveControl and OSCulator but within the same layout. This is not possible. As long as TouchOSC works with only one OSC destination at a time, you can't customize LiveControl's template and use only some controls with OSCulator.

So, are you sure you really want to use the LiveControl template with OSCulator?

TouchOSC is popular and works well with OSCulator, so we host user contributed templates that have been tested with OSCulator here:
http://www.osculator.net/forum/forums/24-ToucOSC-Layouts
TouchOSC is an application developped by hexler.net, so if you have more questions related to TouchOSC's layouts you might want to ask on their forum (http://hexler.net/forum).

Finally, when learning OSCulator with TouchOSC I always recommend to start using the default templates (Beatmachine, Keys, etc.) and map a few MIDI notes or control changes. Start with something simple, then things will become easy. Personnally, I prefer to create a simple layout with only a few controls, rather than diving into complex setups I don't understand.
