I'll tell you why it's a problem. i hacked the wiimote to fuse it to a melodica. because osculator used buttons 1&2 to pair, i removed the red button to save space. how now do i pair the thing?

If you managed to hack the wiimote, it shouldn't be difficult to solder a small button in place where the red button is supposed to make contact.

it's now hidden inside the melodica, fused together with araldite... and a gig tomorrow using the thing. i'm on mountain lion, can i just reinstall 2.11 and it'll work?

Yes, since the Wiimote is not paired with the computer, it will work.

Edit: it should work, I can't guarantee 2.11 was totally ready for Lion at the moment it was released.

it used to be paired with the computer. is this a problem? osculator had the old address in there but i cleared it.

Well, it's not paired in the way OSCulator 2.12 pairs the Wiimotes.
There is no public download link but I'm sending you a pm.

awesome that works for now. how do i go about using it in the future? any chance of putting an option to use 1&2 to pair in prefs?

i know i'm prolly in the minority hehe, but yes, an option for people who drilled bits off the wiimote!

I'm sorry the two options are mutually exclusive: once you've paired a Wiimote with the new method it's not easy to get back to the older method. Choosing to change the pairing method was a though decision, but this option is asking for trouble !
